XLS Medical Max Strength – Review Introduction
This is our review of an interesting supplement in the industry, which is a fat binder that is widely available in stores in the UK.
The fat binder is XLS Medical Max Strength.
Below, we are going to give it our full review, but before we cover this area, we should make it clearer what a fat binder is and how it works.
Fat Binders – What are they?
XLS Medical Max Strength is a fat burner, or claimed to be. A fat binder is a supplement which binds to the fat in the food that you eat.
This is then absorbed and converted into a fatty fibre complex which is absorbed by your body and then expelled. It essentially helps you to avoid absorbing fat and allows you to pass it.
Okay, now let’s look at the product.

XLS Medical Max Strength – What does it do?
This is our full review of XLS Medical Max Strength, a fat burner with claims to promote:
- Carb Blocking
- Weight Loss
- Appetite Suppression
But how well will it work for you?
In this review, we look closer at this mysterious supplement to see how effective it really is and how well it may work for you.
Here’s everything we’ve found.
XLS Medical – Who are they?
XLS Medical is a supplements range from it’s parent company Perrigo. Perrigo specialize in private label supplements.
To give you an idea of what that means, they have a range of supplements that you can pay to put your brand on and sell off as your own.
There are hundreds of brands using Perrigo products and trading under different names. XLS Medical is one of their bigger names in the UK. However, their main interests are over the counter pharmaceuticals in the US – it doesn’t stop there though. Here’s just a fraction of what they make:
Perrigo was founded in the US, but moved over to Ireland for tax reasons. This is public knowledge. You should make of that what you will.
For the UK, you can currently get XLS Medical Max Strength in Boots, Tesco, Holland & Barrett, Amazon.co.uk, Superdrug and more. It’s everywhere.
XLS Medical Max Strength – What is Clavitanol?
Difficult to read. There’s only one ingredient in this supplement and it’s a proprietary blend.
A proprietary blend is when a supplement manufacturer chooses to hide the individual dosages of the ingredients in their supplement. This means you don’t know how effective it is overall.
Not only that XLS Medical Max Strength goes one step further and doesn’t even disclose the ingredients they use. Only the name of their proprietary blend: Clavitanol.
Update: We have since found the ingredients listed in XLS Medical Max Strength’s Clavitanol and have updated this review accordingly.
Here’s what we’ve found:
Despite all of our research, we cannot find any information on the Clavitanol ingredient.
All we know is that it is claimed to inhibit enzymes that contribute to carbohydrate absorption and general fat storage.
These are claims, we are yet to see any solid evidence of it workings.
What’s more is that Clavitanol is a proprietary blend of ingredients that XLS Medical does not share. We couldn’t find anything on it in our review. There’s no way to know what’s in this – or if it may react badly with you.
The only things that we could find for XLS Medical Max Strength during our review was the bulking agents used for this fat burner: Microcrystalline Cellulose, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC), Tri-Calcium Phosphate and Magnesium Stearate.
These help the supplement stick together – not actually promote fat loss or blocking in any way.
We’re in the unique position where we can’t offer any real information about this supplement – as the manufacturer refuses to disclose any.
This should tell you a lot about what you’re dealing with here.
- XLS Medical Max Strength – Ingredients Found
Buried on the XLS Medical Max Strength website they briefly mention IQP-VV-102. This is name Clavitanol was named during studies. It is a proprietary composition of L-Arabinose and Grape Marc extract.
Here’s more information about those ingredients:
This is an ingredient that was originally used as a food sweetener. Arabinose’s main benefit is that it can help reduce insulin spikes after eating sugary food. It’s more typically used in products designed for diabetics or people in a pre-diabetic stage.
By reducing the overall response and insulin spike, your body stores less fat from the food that you eat. When your insulin levels are higher, you commonly store more.
It seems like a good option in XLS Medical Max Strength however, it definitely needs to be noted that the effects if L-Arabinose on blood glucose is untested in humans for long term use.
- Grape Marc Extract
This is a more interesting ingredient in XLS Medical Max Strength as it has a myriad of uses in several different industries.
In this supplement it has been used because one study shows that it can help as a carbohydrate digestive enzyme – which could help reduce the overall impact of carbs.
However, some places use Grape marc for leather, winemaking, food colouring, perservatives, a ‘lost circulation’ material in oil drilling. The list goes on.
With so many uses, it seems that this ingredient may be very cheap to source – which is why many companies rely on it so much rather than bespoke components for their trades.
- XLS Medical Sachets: Ingredient Profile Overview
As you can see, XLS Medical Max Strength only has one active ingredient: Clavitanol. What you can’t see is any of the components that make that up.
It’s a proprietary blend with no listed ingredients. There’s no way for us to know how effective it is. All we know is that it may help block the absorption of carbohydrates. However, there is no way to show it.
- XLS Medical Max Strength – Improvements to be made
Ingredients should be listed. For the standard consumer it’s hard to know what’s actually in XLS Medical Max Strength.
We think a combination of thermogenic fat burners and appetite suppression would work best in this supplement.
For thermogenics we think the following would support XLS Medical Max Strength:
- Green Tea
- Green Coffee Bean
- Cayenne Pepper
And here we’ll explain why:
Green Tea is an all natural fat loss aid. Studies show that the antioxidants in Green Tea known as catechins can help improve weight loss by how it boosts your levels of norepinephrine. Norepinephrine is your body’s fat burning hormone. The more of it you have in your system, the support it has to burn more fat.
Next, Green Coffee Bean. Green Coffee Bean contains chlorogenic acid. This is a nutrient that can help break down the glucose in your liver. This is important because your body uses this resource for energy. Without that glucose, you have to turn to other means for energy: i.e. your stored fat cells.
Finally, XLS Medical Max Strength could do with some Cayenne Pepper. It’s a hot chili that raises your body’s temperature. In doing so, your body responds by starting a cooling process to regulate you. This cooling process burns more calories than you would do normally, helping you to burn more fat.
We also think an appetite suppressant like Glucomannan would help too. It’s a fibrous complex that swells in your stomach which helps you to feel fuller for longer. It would be a great addition to this supplement and allow you to stay on your diet.
XLS Medical Max Strength – Any Side Effects?
We can’t say. This is because we don’t know the actual ingredients of the Clavitanol in XLS Medical Max Strength.
Quite honestly, we don’t recommend this supplement. Mainly because the ingredients are too shrouded in mystery for you to know how effective and/or safe it actually is.
XLS Medical Reviews 2019 – Review Summary
On the whole, this isn’t a great weight loss aid on the market.
The ingredients leave some room for improvement as there are only two of them in the Clavitanol, and the dosages are unkown.
We see a lack of transparency on XLS Medical Max Strength’s side. We had to do a lot of digging to find out exactly who they are and what’s in their supplement. When we first did this review, we couldn’t find any information.
There’s also no sign of any fat burner or appetite suppressants to make this supplement more potent and effective.
If you’re interested in this supplement, we strongly suggest that you research other options first – just to see how much more upfront they are about the dosages and ingredients in their products.
